BASIC JEWELRY CARE

All jewelry needs proper care. While certain pieces may need select care, most jewelry should be cared for using the following basics:

Sunlight 

Just like the sun damages skin, heat and light can damage certain pieces. Too much sunlight can darken the appearance if exposed to too much light. To remove any doubt, store jewelry in a dark pouch or jewelry case.

Water 

Although it is perfectly okay to get our jewelry wet, we do not advice against consistent, extended water exposure. Though showering with Coco's Custom Charms jewelry on should not harm the metal, there is a good chance that it could induce tarnishing. Waters that contain chlorine, salts, or harsh chemicals will affect the look of your sterling silver. Constant exposure to water can also reduce the shine and luster therefore it is not recommended. To ensure your jewelry remains as sparkly as the day you got them, it is best practice to remove them and store them in a safe place before showering, swimming or going into a sauna. Always keep dry and away from humidity.

Chemicals 

When gems are exposed to natural oils, certain soaps, and lotions, it can leave a film resulting in less brilliance and sparkle.  Even chemicals that are worn on the body – like hairspray, perfumes and lotions – can affect metals and dull stones. Exposure to common everyday household chemicals, like ammonia or bleach, can damage both metals and gemstones. To keep your jewelry looking new, it's best to put on any perfumes, lotions or hairspray BEFORE putting on jewelry. And it's always wise to remove jewelry before swimming or using any type of household cleaners. 

PROPER STORAGE

Most jewelry pieces come in our custom jewelry boxes or pouches that is perfect for storing your new Coco's Custom Charm pieces. However, most people use a jewelry box. 

Jewelry boxes that have individual felt‐lined and padded slots for rings, necklaces and earrings will keep them organized, clean and safe. Some boxes are lined with anti‐tarnish cloth, perfect for storing sterling silver pieces.
